Part 10: Creating Charts and Graphs

Charts and Graphs are great for adding data visualization to an application, but ESFramework goes beyond just data visualization. On certain types of graphs, ESFramework allows the user to interact with a chart and actually change the data values in TM1. On a line graph, the user can move a forecast line, for example, to adjust it more in line with the budget.

This module shows the basics for setting up two charts that are both dependent upon multiple dropdowns. When any one of the dropdowns are changed, both charts will be updated with the corresponding data.

Labels and titles are important in charts and graphs to set context and make it easy for the user to understand what is being presented. This module illustrates how to set these labels and titles based on dropdown selections as well as data returned from TM1.

Highlights

  • Considerations when setting up views in ESWeb for charts and graphs
  • Create bar and pie charts from data in TM1
  • Pivot rows and columns of data returned from views
  • Create simultaneous dependency between two charts and two dropdowns
  • Use token substitution to drive titles and queries
  • Set label text to values from retrieved cube data
